Govt, market side with cbank to ban crypto money for payments
MOSCOW, Feb 15 (PRIME) -- The Russian government and the market have agreed with the central bank to ban the use of cryptocurrencies as a means of payment, while common ground on the other types of usage, like issuance, may be found soon, Anatoly Aksakov, head of the financial market committee at the State Duma, said on Tuesday.
“We have started hot discussions about regulation of cryptocurrencies, the positions here range from strict non-acceptance in the Russian environment, mainly as a means of payment on the part of the central bank,” Aksakov said at an online conference.
“The position of the ban as a means of payment is supported by everyone, even the market.”
He said that there are different approaches to whether to ban issuance and turnover of the cryptocurrencies in the Russian jurisdiction or regulate them toughly.
